Build a Small Cabinet

Start Date:  February 23, 2015
                    October 19, 2015

Tuition: $875 Cdn

Materials Fee: Students are encouraged to come with their materials already milled to the dimensions provided in the parts list in order to get directly to the techniques being covered in the class. Lumber and hardware kits can be ordered at the time of booking your class for those who lack the facilities to prepare their own materials ahead of time. Cherry materials packages are available for $195 plus tax.

In this five day class, students will work on the construction of a small wall-hung cabinet using solid hardwood and a variety of traditional joinery techniques including sliding dovetails, dados, rabbets and shiplap joints, followed by the construction and fitting of an inset, raised panel door built with haunched tenons. Joinery will be cut primarily with machinery, and refined for a perfect fit with hand tools.

We top the cabinet off with a small cove, with the option of using a scratch stock to add a bead to the bottom edge of the molding. As a final decorative touch, we will go over how to create shop made banding suitable for application around the top of the cabinet adjacent to the cove molding.

Each student will receive a full size drawing to work from. Approximately 10 board feet of lumber will be used in the making of this cabinet. Students are encouraged to come with their materials already milled to the dimensions provided when you book your space in order to get directly to the techniques being covered in the class. Lumber kits can be ordered at the time of booking for those who lack the facilities to prepare their own materials ahead of time.
