Our Craftsmanship Series was developed to provide flexibility and a logical approach to achieving an accomplished level of furniture making skills. Each workshop is designed to advance the student’s skills in a useful progression, expanding on the material covered in the previous workshops in the series. We strive to make the programs both achievable and challenging, maintaining enough flexibility for students of various skill levels. |

In total, there are 6 workshops in the Craftsmanship Series. Excellence With Hand Tools, Mastering Machinery, Joinery For Furniture Makers, Drawers and Doors, Advanced Forms and Processes and Final Details are skills development workshops, frequently run consecutively so that students can take more than one workshop during a visit to Rosewood. Where possible, these courses have been developed to allow students to build a small piece of furniture as they learn, though the emphasis of the classes is in learning the presented skills, rather than completing a project. |

Our 6-Week Craftsman Program is ideal for those who can arrange a continuous 6 week period of intensive study, and includes all of the skill building courses in the series, providing a thorough introduction to the techniques used in fine furniture making. In addition to the skill building exercises in this program, students have the opportunity to build a small table and a cabinet or lidded box. They enjoy the advantage of an uninterrupted stretch of time in which to immerse themselves in their work, with a degree of continuity not available when individual courses of the series are separated by time. Those enrolled in the 6 week program also realize a savings of over $450 compared to the cost of taking the equivalent classes individually. |

The 12-Week Craftsman Program starts with the same curriculum as our six week program, then continues as students are lead through the process of designing and building their own piece of furniture, from initial sketches, design development and mock ups to the photography of the finished work. Along the way, we delve into more complex forms of joinery, the application of commercial veneers, tool making and finishing. Time is also spent in a discussion of professional practices and the details of setting up a working shop.
6 and 9 Month Studio Furniture Making Programs Students completing our 12 week Craftsman program may apply for additional 12 week periods of study, for a total of six or nine months of tuition in which to develop their woodworking and design skills. Twelve week segments may be taken consecutively or one at a time, as suits each student's requirements. Under the guidance of Rosewood staff and guest instructors, students will typically build several finished pieces of furniture, with each successive piece increasing in both complexity and design input from the student. Students will also benefit from participation in special guest instructor workshops scheduled during their program. We accept a limited number of applicants for advanced study each year, based upon abilities and aptitude demonstrated during our 12 Week Craftsman programs. The cost of each successive 12 Week segment is $4840 Cdn.
A Note Regarding Pre-requisites: The programs in our Craftsmanship series are designed to be taken in succession, with each class building upon the skills presented in preceding courses. Students wishing to attend courses in the series without the pre-requisite classes may be permitted to do so, but with the understanding that they are assumed to already posses the knowledge and skills taught in the preceding programs, and that the progress of the class cannot be altered to cover material from those courses. We’re sure you appreciate our position on this, and thank you for your understanding |
