During this five day course with Rosewood Studio’s very own Jim Garven, students will build an elegant stool using rift sawn ash, then learn the technique of weaving a comfortable seat using Danish cord.
Special attention will be given to the selection of materials in order to compliment the form of the piece with the graphics present in the material, thereby strengthening the overall design of the work. Curved components will be shaped with the aid of templates created during the class, then cut with the bandsaw and refined using router templates and spokeshaves.
This class is a great introduction to working with curved and shaped surfaces, floating tenons and the specific techniques of weaving a cord seat. Think of the final product, a beautiful and sophisticated looking stool, as an added bonus!
Pre-requisites: Excellence With Hand Tools and Mastering Machinery or equivalent. This course is suitable for woodworkers with an intermediate to advanced level of skill, able to safely mill lumber to dimension and sharpen and use basic hand tools.
